There are less invasive and very effective treatments available and Face Place offers them.

Before Choosing Aggressive and Invasive Skin Care Procedures, Consider a more Progressive Approach…

One such treatment is Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), also known as Micro Needling.

It has become all the craze, and has replaced many traditional collagen inducing treatments such a derma-planing, microdermabrasion and chemical peels, as well as many other more aggressive medical skin care procedures.

What is it and why is it fast becoming the go to anti aging treatment of the moment?

Here are the answers to the most frequently asked questions about this very popular Face Place Treatment…

What is Micro Needling? Micro needling is a treatment that stimulates a form of Collagen Induction Therapy(CIT). It is also referred to as a non ablative skin treatment, which means that the deeper parts of the skin are treated without the removal of the top layer of skin. It is designed to treat various skin conditions such as fine lines and wrinkles, light scarring from acne, photo-damage, and to improve skin color and other skin texture changes. This treatment aims to create a controlled injury underneath the skin’s surface, causing the body to form new tissue layers of elastin- and collagen fibers, as well as new capillaries to improve the blood supply in the treated area. The skin plumps and thickens in response to this stimulation and reduces the appearance of scars, fine lines and other skin texture changes. In addition to Collagen Synthesis, the micro channels made by the tiny puncture wounds from the needles, allow topical gels and creams to be absorbed more effectively through the epidermis.

What are the effects of Micro Needling? It improves the thickness of the dermis as well as the epidermis, which improves skin texture and reduces wrinkles. It also has a positive effect on hyper-pigmentation as well as on hypo-pigmentation. Disfiguring scars, especially acne scars, can also be improved.

What are alternative Skin Treatments to Micro Needling? Alternatives are the ablative skin treatments such as lasers, chemical peels and dermabrasion which remove the top layer of skin and have more down time and side effects, as well as possible risks. However, in situations where the top layer of skin is affected with more severe changes in color, wrinkles and quality of skin, ablative treatments may be preferred over non ablative skin treatments.

Other than the face, can Micro Needling be done on other areas? Micro Needling can be used on all skin parts of the body (neck, décolleté, arms, legs and face).

What does the treatment include and how long does it take? At Face Place we will cleanse the skin (5 min), perform an optional derma plane or microdermabrasion on the skin (20 min), followed by a mild exfoliation prior to the treatment (5 min). A topical numbing cream is applied, then removed prior to the application of a Hyaluronic Serum (15-20 min) The Micro Needling is then performed (15-20 min). We finish the treatment by infusing serums and calming gel with Oxygen. (5 min) Approximate Time 1 hr 15 min

We also provide a post care kit with healing products and post care instructions, and give each client a recommended home care regimen.

What is the down time and side effects after the treatment? The skin will be pink or red in appearance for 24-48 hours, much like a sunburn. The skin may also feel warm, tight and itchy for a short while. Generally the inflammation fades significantly after 24-48 hours on average. Side effects and risks are minimal with this type of treatment and typically include minor flaking or dryness of the skin. Infections are extremely rare. Hyper-pigmentation or darkening of the skin area treated is highly unlikely but can very rarely occur. This is usually temporary and subsides. If you have a history of cold sores, then this could possibly flare up after the treatment. Your doctor can prescribe appropriate anti-viral medication to use a few days prior to treatment.

When will I see the results? It can take between 6- 8 weeks before visible signs of skin regeneration are seen and the process will continue to evolve over the ensuing months providing a gradual improvement. Although a single treatment can provide a noticeable result, ideally a series of 2-3 treatments spaced about 6 -8 weeks apart, is recommended to achieve optimal results. Once desired results are achieved, a treatment once or twice a year is recommended.

We encourage you to consider this very effective treatment before embarking on more invasive approaches to your skin care needs!
